About Us
PLUMAS-SIERRA CATTLEWOMEN
Plumas-Sierra CattleWomens organization was formed by a group of ranchers wives who wanted to be more involved in the Cattle industry. We began our adventure in September of 1966. Our first president was Esther Goss with 44 members. Esther was an active member and on the Board of Directors until her passing.
Our first brand napkins were in 1973 chaired by Doris Goss and Suzie Maddalena. We have cocktail napkins with local brands. You can find them in the Cowbelle "Country Store" for sale. They continue to be a hot item for us.
PSCW made their first brand quilt in 1977, Erma Strang was our first Quilt Committee Chair. Our quilt is to raise money for scholarships for local students in Plumas and Sierra Counties. Our quilt is hand made with hand embroidered local registered brands from our counties. We continue to make a brand quilt each year.
We started out as "CowBelles" and adopted CattleWomen in 1988 to be consistant with the California CattleWomen
In 1993 Nadine Maddalena collected 71 brands from our 2 counties and our first "Brands of the West" book was created. Our 2nd edition was updated in 2010, chaired by Juanita Holley. Many of our members participated in this project and we are greatful for their time and effort.
"Brands of the West" 2nd edition brand book is no longer available for purchase in the Cowbelle "Country Store". We will update if we decide to reprint the book.
Plumas-Sierra CattleWomens membership has grown from its original 44 members to 65 today. We also have 5 ANCW members and 6 new members.
